World’s Fair
Project The
Sixth Grade Social Studies Curriculum in New York State includes the
study of the Eastern Hemisphere. Part of the curriculum focuses on the
geography of countries within the hemisphere. The World’s Fair Project
allows children the opportunity to research an individual country and in
effect become its ambassador by the end of the project. The project
begins in November and the actual fair occurs in March. Beginning
with writing a letter to the foreign embassy of their chosen country,
students prepare a report, project board display, maps, and a display of
artifacts and food. Students also combine their technology skills with
researching information on the worldwide web. This activity is in line
with the New York State Education Department Social Studies Standards.
