Veterans Day 2000 By Sabrina
November 8, 2000

The Persian Gulf War was the topic of our research.  Before I started this project I had never taken into consideration Veterans Day.  I had never really thought about the meaning of Veterans Day, because it never seemed really important to me before.  The research that was conducted by our group was very helpful because I now understand the meaning of Veterans Day.

I know why veterans sacrificed their lives.  They helped make America a safer place.  They fought and died and won wars.  Now we are a free country and we have our own rights.  The experience that the veterans had helped other countries.  They taught other countries to stand up for their rights.  They also taught us to stand up for something that you believe.

When you are born you’re innocent, but as you grow up you become mischievous.  It’s the same thing with debt.  You have no debts as a child but as you grow up you can become in debt to other people.  You were not born because you were needed to serve in the military.  It is your duty to your country.  If you loved your country and your way of living, than you would be proud to serve in the military.   It’s your choice and your life.  You are not being forced to serve in the military, but you should be honored to serve.

It is important to recognize that sacrifices that veterans made.  They died to give us a better life.  We should appreciate them for that.  We should celebrate that we are not at war today and that we also have a free life.

Veterans Day is on November 11.  We are off on Friday so that we have time to celebrate and give thanks to the veterans.  On Veterans Day people usually watch the parade on television.  They might watch it live where it is taking place if they can.  They could visit family members or friends.  They might do whatever it takes to make it a happy day.  This year I will try to make Veterans Day more special than the years before.
