English Language Arts

Since the tragic events of September 11^th, our country has experienced a resurgence of pride in what is sometimes taken for granted. Pride in being an American has been expressed by citizens in hundreds of ways. Write a 250 word essay on your reasons for being an American or if you’re not a citizen, why you’re glad to be living here. In your essay be sure to include the answers to the following questions:

·        What is pride?

·        What are some reasons why people come to America to live?

·        What are the freedoms we enjoy as citizens that other countries may not have?

·        Would you leave America to live somewhere else? Why? Why not?

·        What would your life be like if you were not living here?

·        What has the September 11^th tragedy made you think about?

·        What has America done to help other people in other countries of the world?

·        What does democracy mean? How does democracy affect your life in this country?

·        Is America the greatest country in the world? Why? Why not?

The technology and writing skills utilized in this project are also  in synch with the NYSED ELA and Social Studies Standards.
