The high point of the Western Suffolk BOCES Technology Share Fair in Great River, NY occurred when local television station Channel 55, interviewed teacher Sheila Gatling's sixth grade students from E.W. Miles Middle School in Amityville, NY about their cutting-edge projects and class website, http://www.middleschoolkidz.com/

This annual Technology Share Fair is an opportunity for each of the eighteen school districts to share and learn about the best practices in technology curricular applications. Teachers and students exhibited their technology supported endeavors and discussed the role of technology in the classroom.

Edmund W. Miles Middle School students Ryan, Blair, Tiffany and Stephen accompanied their teacher Mrs. Gatling to the fair to display their World’s Fair Projects and their classroom website, http://www.middleschoolkidz.com/

The four students explained to visitors to their booth how they

  • researched their project,

  • learned to use Microsoft PowerPoint to display their information,

  • used search engines to locate information and graphics,

  • wrote letters to their countries embassy requesting information and

  • exhibited their completed work at an evening event at the middle school.

The students also encouraged visitors to the Technology Fair to view their completed World’s Fair Projects and Sixth Grade class work on the laptop that accompanied them to the fair.

Their classroom website  http://www.middleschoolkidz.com/ is a place on the worldwide web that showcases the curriculum these sixth graders have covered in Social Studies and English Language Arts. The site includes an extensive amount of student projects, essays, literary critiques, PowerPoint Projects, games, syllabus; links for parents, teachers and students.
