2000
The presidential election will take place on November 7, 2000. This election is important because it helps you decide who you want to represent your rights and make changes in the laws. The role of the United States is that we are the most powerful country ever. We also have a huge military and lots of resources. We have lots of freedom, but we need a limit to our choices sometimes. That’s where our president or our leader comes in, to help us when we are in need. One of the two major candidates running in the election is George W. Bush from the Republican Party. The other major candidate is Albert Gore from the Democratic Party. Al Gore is currently the Vice President of the United States of America. George Bush is currently the Governor of Texas. The candidates are very different but they do have a few similarities in their qualifications. For instance they are both over the age of thirty-five. They also lived in America for over fourteen years. Another similarity is that they are native citizens of the U.S. Al Gore’s proposal on Social Security is to keep all the money in the lock box, because he thinks that putting it in a stock market is too risky. One minute it’s there the next it’s gone. He doesn’t want to take that chance. Bush’s proposal on Social Security is that you should invest your money in the stock market. He thinks that it’s the best place to keep your money. Al Gore’s proposal on health care is to make sure by 2005 every child is insured. In addition to his proposal Al Gore also wants to make health care more affordable to more low income families. George Bush has faith in his plan for health care. His plan is to provide money to the poor families to help them pay for health care. He feels that Al Gore’s proposal will charge countless money. Social Security is the money that is kept safe for you after you retire. You are allowed to retire once you reach the age of 65. Than every month you receive a paycheck from the social security money in the lock box. After watching the debate my impression of George Bush is that this election is very important to him. He under a lot of pressure and it shows. Bush was not very organized during the first debate. He held it together a little better in the second debate. During the debate they were not supposed to ask each other questions, although in a weird way, Bush kept firing questions at Al Gore. After watching the debates my impression of Al Gore is that he is organized. He knows how the laws and systems work. He is also familiar with our country and its problems. Al Gore has a point and keeps saying it over to make sure he gets his point across. If I received the power to vote I would definitely vote for Al Gore. He has more experience than Bush and also is more organized. He has expressed more ideas that than George Bush that I feel are important. The presidential election is important because you get to choose who represents you and your rights. You have to pick the best person you think will help you and your country change for the better. That’s where you come in and pick the president. A president has the right to change laws, or over rule them. He can also decide whether we could enter or exit a war. He has the power to decide what is best for the country on our behalf. The significance of this election in politics is that the technology is getting more advanced and the people are getting a vast education. We need a president that can adjust to our needs. We need a president that will be able to lead us without fear. We need someone that is wise and knows how our systems work. We have the opportunity of our life in our hands. We have the choice of how we want our future to end up. We should take that in with no regrets. |
