The presidential election is important because it shows who will run our country. If we pick a person that does not run our country well we will be stuck with him/her for four years. This year our presidential election takes place in November 7^th. 

The role that the United States play in the world is being free and making decisions that all of the people want to go by. Many people come to the U.S. because they like to be equal whether their race is different then others or even if they are women. This is a powerful country because most of the people that are trying to make this country a better place are working together. We have the most powerful army because they are risking their lives to make this world a better place. From all of the things we do the people in our country can live a longer and hopefully happier life.

 The two candidates running for the presidential election are Al Gore, who is in the Democratic Party and George Bush who is in the Republican Party. George Bush is currently the governor of Texas and Al Gore is the vice-president of America. Both candidates are over thirty-five and they both have experience with running a country or a state.

 George Bush says on Social Security that senior citizens should be allowed to put their money in the stock market if they want to. On health, Bush says that he will plan to provide money to poor families to help them pay for health insurance. He feels that Gore’s plan will cost too much. On Social Security, Gore says that it would be risky to put your money into the market. On health care, Gore says he wants to make sure that every child is insured by the year 2005. He also wants to make health care more affordable for low-income families. Social Security is money that you pay while you are working and when you retire at the age of 65 little by little you get that money.

I think that George Bush is going to do a lot for our country such as cutting taxes and making health insurance affordable but I still like Gore better. I like what Gore says he will do about our schools. He says that he will hire more teachers and have fewer students in a classroom. I agree with this because it is very hard for a teacher to teach you well with a lot of students. Also Gore is a Democrat and so am I. 

I feel that a president should run our country as well as Bill Clinton. A president should be fair to everyone and agree to laws that will be good for our country. A president shouldn’t try to start wars with other countries but try to work together with them. Most of all I think that a president should keep America together.

The significance about this election is that the two candidates running are willing to do many things for our country in different ways. I think that this is going to be a very close election. Voting in any election allows you to state your opinion for what you want to happen. This is an important concept because if no one states their opinion chances are you are not going to get what you want. Another very important concept is that many people died for women or a person of another race to vote. Voting is showing them that they didn’t die in vain.
