“Election 2000” by Ashely B
October 2000

The presidential election determines who will be president for the year 2001. The election takes place November 7, 2000 that’s when people vote for their president whom takes care of this country.

The United States is the most powerful country in the world and gives people freedom and the right to choose. The United States has a government that is fair to everyone and most people respect people of all races and religions. Immigrants are allowed to settle in America for a new life.

The candidates for this election are George Bush, Governor of Texas, A Republican and Al Gore, Vice President, born in Tennessee, a Democrat.

The qualifications for being president are:

  • having political experience,
  • over the age of 35,
  • living in the United States for 14 years.

A president helps their country and makes new laws to make their country a better place and make our country remain powerful.

If I was able to vote I would vote for Al Gore because Al Gore has more experience and a better idea of what it means to be president. Al Gore seems to have smart and very promising ideas, he is not trying win a popularity contest he is just trying to be the best president he could be.

I think it is important to vote in a presidential election because every vote counts and the votes can tell you who will be the president and who will keep our country in power and take care of our country’s issues and problems. One vote can make a difference in our country.

Al Gore’s position on health care is to make sure every child has health insurance by the year 2005 and makes health care more affordable for low-income families. George Bush thinks Gore’s plan is too expensive and he has a plan for health care.

One of the important issues today is social security. Social Security is when people pay taxes and then the people over the age of 65 who worked for a long period of time get the money that they saved after they retired from their job.

After watching the debate my impression of Al Gore is he’s a great person that can really do a lot for his country and help other nations too.

My impression of George Bush is, he is a person who won’t do too much. Al Gore says that he will health insure every kid by the year 2005. George Bush just says that Gore’s plan is too much money. You should try to help everyone as much as you can with any idea. George Bush says that our military shouldn’t be in too many conflicts with other countries.

The significance of the election world politics is we try to make the world a better place and make the right decisions for a better future.

Voting in an election is an important concept because the person you vote for can determine what kind of country this society will have in the future.
