| “Presidential Election 2000” by Alicia |
December 2000
I think this year’s election was a mess, and confused. I thought it was confusing when they gave Gore the votes for Florida. Then took the votes back and gave it to Bush, then after that they did the votes over. I don’t think the votes in Florida were handled properly because they had to take the votes back from Gore and then gave it to Bush and then they took it away from him. In
the end Bush won the Florida votes and I didn’t think it was fair
because Gore had the votes first. I
think that they should have given the votes to Gore because the
votes were given to Gore first. I think electing a president is an important aspect to the Americans because it gives them the right to vote for who they think would be a good leader to lead their country. It is important because a president is the leader of a country and can control. The president can make changes to the country whether
the people like it or not. The television media influences the outcome of the election because people watch television and listen to what is going on or what the people on television are
talking about. The Supreme Court said that they should have canceled the votes. Then they finally said that bush had the most votes in Florida and then Bush won the election because
he won all of the Florida votes. The
Supreme Court is the highest court in the state. Lawyers
were needed in the election because they needed to defend the
candidates. The lawyers also tried to make their defendants win. In this election I supported Al Gore. My candidate did not win, but I think that he should of won the election because he received the Florida votes first and
then took it away from him and gave it to Bush. From watching this years election I learned that everyone’s vote counts, because this year we had to make recounts and then the state of Florida was taking away from both candidates and then Bush ended up with the Florida votes. I also learned that voting is a big responsibility and that if you vote you could
make a difference. When I am twenty-one I will accept the responsibility to vote because I
now know that my vote counts and it could make a big difference.
