Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day. It was made to remember those who have died while in the service. People are often upset about their loved ones who have died.

People decorate the graves of their family members. They are often crying while they decorate the graves. When I went to Washington D.C. I saw the changing of the guards. The guards walk back and forth twenty-one paces.

They guard the Tomb of the Unknowns in the cemetery for a half an hour then they take a break. When they take a break another guard patrols. I think that all Americans are great and they are also very smart. It is important to remember the fallen soldiers because they did a lot for us.

If the soldiers did not fight we would probably be under a foreign country’s control. I think that the soldiers made the ultimate sacrifice by defending America and they are also very brave. Sometimes I wonder what it felt like to be running around while bombs were dropping and your friends dying.

My reading about this history reminded me of what people did for us. My Uncle and Grandpa were in the war. They both came out unharmed. My Uncle was in Desert Storm and my Grandpa was a medic.
