“First Assembly” by Alicia
September 2000

The principal of the Edmund W. Miles Middle School is Mr. Jackson. At the assembly Mr. Jackson talked about respect and responsibility. He talked about no running in the hallway and how a boy was running and bumped into the teacher and then she fell and got seriously hurt. The school-wide theme is respect. He stressed to us about treating people with respect and to treat them the way you want to be treated.

The vice-principal at the Edmund W. Miles Middle School is Mr. Gonser, and talked about detention, and how it is easy to get.    He also talked about always walk to the right of you, and as Mr. Jackson said “no running in the halls.” Mr. Austin, the dean of students, talked to us about lunch, lunch detention, and bus passes.

A guidance counselor is someone that helps you when you are in need of help. The guidance counselors for the middle school are Ms. Bernstein and Mr. Nelson. They didn’t talk at the assembly, but they did talk to us in our classrooms last year. They talked about how they help us when we are in need of aid, or if you are upset. My guidance counselor this year is Ms. Bernstein.

After hearing all of these people at the assembly my plans for school year 2000-2001 is to follow all of the rules, not get into trouble, and do the best I can.
