This year on March 14-16, 2001 107 sixth grade students, parents and teachers visited the nation’s capital. In preparation for the trip, students sold candy to friends and relatives from November 2000 to January 2001. We studied important facts about the history of the city as well as the important monuments we would visit. As American students and the future leaders of tomorrow, this annual trip brought their Social Studies lessons to life. Each student had their own passport, which included a picture of themselves, important personal information and questions about each of the places we visited. The students of Edmund W. Miles Middle School thoroughly enjoyed the trip. They learned that a trip can be fun and educational. The essays and PowerPoint Presentations the students have written illustrate their excitement and enjoyment of visiting: The White House, Capitol Building, Holocaust Museum, Lincoln Memorial, Ford’s Theater, National Archives, Air and Space Museum, American History Museum, Natural History Museum, Korean War Memorial, FDR Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery and the Baltimore Aquarium. |
