Bronx Zoo  By Kimberly B

On Friday April 20, 2001 the sixth grade students from E.W. Miles Middle school went to the Bronx Zoo. The Bronx Zoo was a lot of fun. I had just been there in September and remember a lot of it. We went places I did not get to go the last time I went there so I was happy about that.  It was fun because I was with all of my friends( Emily  , Melanie, Samantha, Emily, Jo Jo , Lauren, and Ashley).

We visited many places like the Congo where we saw the gorilla and okapi, Wild Asia where we saw camels (Emily and I road on it together, World of Darkness where we saw fruit bats, we also went into parts of the zoo where we saw giraffe’s and Storks.

I enjoyed the gorillas and the giraffe the most because I liked the long necks on giraffes and watching the movie on gorillas because I like helping animals and studying animal behavior. I wish I got to see every animal in the zoo.

I am very happy that the zoo is dedicated to preserving endangered species. The endangered species that we saw at the zoo were the gorilla and the stork. I did the spider monkey as my science project, I did not see them at the zoo on the trip, but I saw them when I went to the zoo in September with my family.

I road the skyfari and it was fun, it was not scary to me. It was slow and you were able to see almost the whole park. I went with Melanie and Lauren, at the beginning it sounded like it was going to fall so we were a little scared. I did not go on the shuttle train.

I learned that animals have a hard life. Animals are very different in the way they live life, but similar too.

I saw the okapi, they live in the Congo, in rain forests. Camels live in Asia and spider monkeys live in Brazil. Gorillas live in the Congo in rain forests. The initials WCS mean Wildlife Conservation Society.

The World of Darkness had a lot of bats, like fruit bats, which are minute bats. It was very dark, but they turned on the lights in the middle of it. There were large snakes, a gigantic porcupine, and animals that live under ground.

In the Jungle World it was very hot. We saw a lot of different kinds of butterflies. We also saw otters swimming and playing. It looked like a real jungle and felt like it too. We saw monkeys, but it was foggy there so it was hard to see them.

The Congo was very big; we saw gorilla’s fish, okapi, and monkeys. We saw pictures of gorillas, but only their heads. I also saw their feet and hands in a basket. It was very sad. We saw a movie on gorilla’s there.

I would tell those who did not go on the trip that they misted out on something that was a lot of fun, and we learned a lot. I think those who did not go that they should still go.
