40 Minutes… News Magazine

Room 008 - 2002-2003

This school year my students will be involved in writing a monthly news magazine. This news magazine will also have a pc cam version as well as the printed issue.

Each month students, working in groups of 4, will be given specific topics that they are to report on for the monthly issue. Students will have to interview people, research their topic, write their copy for the printed issue, and write their script for the pc cam version.

The development of this news magazine will help students develop the skills needed to meet the English Language Arts Performance Standards mandated by the New York State Department of Education.

Each month the stories, articles and interviews written by the students will be utilized to teach valuable skills in the four New York State Standards:

Students will read, write, listen and speak for:

  •  Standard 1 – information and understanding

  •  Standard 2- literary response and   expression

  •  Standard 3- critical analysis and evaluation

  •  Standard 4- social interaction
